More than fourteen hundred years before Jesus was born in Bethlehem, the children of Israel had gathered together in the beautiful valley of Shechem, and on one side of the hill were the voices of priests proclaiming blessings and curses—"A blessing, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God: ... For a moment, let us imagine ourselves going into that scene and sitting on that mountain with the disciples and entering the thoughts and feelings that fill their hearts. If we begin to understand what Jesus means in the hearts of those who listen to him, we can discover the diversity and beauty of jesus, and we can learn the profound lessons they have learned.
